Individual task – EDA + ESDA

I recommend using the manual of GeoDa if needed.

Task description

Choose a region (NUTS3 – “kraj”; not Prague) and a variable from the census 2021 (i.e. number of university-educated people). Convert this variable to a relevant relative variable (i.e. rate of university-educated people per population 15+ in %). Calculate descriptive statistics for the chosen variable (based on the details below) and correctly interpret all results. Your report will contain the front page, task description, and structured results with your comments and interpretation. All results will be summarized in the conclusion.

  1. Calculate these statistics – mean, trimmed mean, median, minimum, maximum, standard deviation, variance, coefficient of variation, skewness, and kurtosis. Add correct units and round all results to an appropriate number of decimal places. Write a brief and fruitful interpretation of the results below the table. I do not want equations or descriptions of particular statistics, but the interpretation of results.
  2. Create a histogram for your variable (x-axes will be correctly divided into intervals). Describe the histogram, focusing mainly on the most frequent interval, and type of distribution (unimodal, multimodal). The description applies to your data.
  3. Create a box plot for your variable. Interpret the results, focus mainly on the existence of outliers or extremes, compare ranges of quartiles, location of median compared to mean, etc.
  4. Create in GeoDa:
    1. Percentile Map,
    2. Box Map (use both settings IQR=1,5 and IQR=3 and use a connection with box plot)
    3. Use other functions from Explore if needed
  5. Check the normality of data – use graphical and numerical methods. If data is not in the normal distribution, try to normalize it.
